I am a Canadian gal from British Columbia who moved to a small town near Stuttgart, Germany at the end of July 2013 to join my German fiancé in his native land. We got married in Canada in April 2014 and are currently living in Germany. In September 2016 we moved to Würzburg, a city in the Franconian region of Bavaria. We’re looking forward to exploring our new city together.
Kaffee und Kuchen is the German tradition of having a slice of cake with a nice cup of coffee in the afternoon. This is one of my favourite German traditions as those who know me know that I love coffee and anything sweet!
Though Kaffee und Kuchen means ‘coffee and cake’ in German, this isn’t a food-focused blog. I like to think of my blog posts as topics that I’d chat about with a friend if we were sitting at a café. My blog is a way to have virtual ‘coffee talk’ with my family, friends and readers.
Being an expat comes with its fair share of ups and downs. During my first months in Germany, I found comfort in reading other expats’ blogs. I could sympathize with their experiences and learned a lot of great tips as well. At first Kaffee und Kuchen was mainly a private blog for my friends and family to catch up on what I’d been up to, but I later started sharing my blog online in case other expats would find my posts helpful or informative. I list some of my favourite expat blogs and websites on my Expat Resources page.
I love to travel and feel grateful to be within a stone’s throw of so many fantastic destinations now that I’m living in Europe. To check out my travel posts, feel free to visit my Destinations page.
When I’m not blogging, I love flipping through cookbooks, reading food blogs, and trying new recipes. I’ve always been more of a baker than a cook, but out of necessity, I started teaching myself to cook in recent years. A girl’s gotta eat!
