Before moving to Germany, I lived in Vancouver, Canada for 10 years. During that time I had the chance to visit some amazing restaurants in the city. Whenever I go back to Vancouver, I like to visit some of my old favourite restaurants but also try new spots popping up all over the city. I’ve compiled a list of some of my top Vancouver restaurants divided into different categories. If you find yourself in Vancouver, I hope you’ll give some of these spots a try!
108-777 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC
My go-to dim sum place in the city. Try the prawn dumplings and pan fried rice rolls.
555 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver, BC/1172 Alberni Street, Vancouver, BC
High quality award-winning dim sum at two locations in Vancouver.
6270 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC/1213-8338 Capstan Way, Richmond, BC/2015-8580 Alexandra Road, Richmond, BC
My friend Meghan introduced me to this bustling Chinese restaurant specializing in individualized soups. Pick your soup base, noodles, veggies, meats, and toppings. So hearty and filling!
3755 Main Street, Vancouver, BC/1521 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC
Words cannot express how much I love this Thai restaurant. Try the green curry, panang curry, red curry, papaya salad, tom ka gai, and mojitos (alcoholic drinks are only served at the West Broadway location).
3106 Cambie Street, Vancouver, BC
Vij’s has been a hotspot in Vancouver for as long as I can remember. I only had the chance to try it for the first time this past summer during my visit home. Affectionately referred to as ‘a 10/10 meal every time’ by my sister, I’d have to say that she was right. Try the wine marinated lamb popsicles and grilled chicken. You can’t go wrong with anything on this menu.
551 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC
Tasty and affordable Vietnamese subs in the downtown core. Try the grilled pork sub – my favourite.
1298 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC/546 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC
Yolks is a popular new breakfast spot with two locations in Vancouver. They’re known for their perfectly poached eggs but they also have other breakfast favourites like waffles and french toast on the menu.
500 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC
I love their selection of creative sushi rolls like the salmon mango roll, tiger roll, and Washington roll.
1227 Marine Drive, North Vancouver, BC/5935 East Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC
My friend Kristal introduced me to this sushi place during my recent visit home. I cannot stop thinking about the sushi there! Service is incredibly fast – we ordered and our dishes were served 3 minutes later. You must try the spicy salmon sashimi – you can thank me later.
2272 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC/3096 Main Street, Vancouver, BC/4434 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC/3 Londsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, BC
Burgoo is the place to go when you’re craving some warm and indulgent comfort food. Try the crab bisque, grilled cheese sandwich, mac & cheese, beef bourguignon, and cheese fondue.
I could go on and on with recommendations but I decided to end it here. Please reach out to me if you need any more restaurant recommendations in Vancouver, either by cuisine or region of the city (or surrounding suburbs) – I’d be happy to help!
